1. What is “A Novel Idea”?
A Novel Idea is a story-writing game where you compete with or against friends to create a top-scoring story---one sentence at a time. Additional points are awarded with the use of Key and Bonus words (vocabulary words). An added bonus to A Novel Idea is that it has a level playing field so adults and kids can play together without the adult “dumbing down” the game.
2. Why does registering ask for so much personal information?
Because A Novel Idea wants to level the playing field (so children can play with adults) as much as possible, we ask for your age. We also ask for your email incase you lose your password. Your phone number is asked so friends can look you up and start a game with you.
3. How many usernames can I register on 1 device?
You can have up to 5 users per device.
4. I want to create a game with my friend! How do I do that?
First you should add them as your friend. (Friend icon at the bottom). You can find your friend via Facebook, Twitter, Username or your phone’s contact list. After you have done this, go back to the home page and select “create game”. Pick the game details that you want and select your friend’s name in the player screen.
5. What is “quick game”?
A “Quick Game” pairs you up with a random friend in your age-bracket. The game details are “A Novel Idea” and “default”—meaning you will be given a starting sentence and you will be scored based on how many bonus/keywords you use.
6. What do you mean “In my age bracket’”?
A truly random game (pairing with someone you don’t know) will be based on your age. This is to prevent children playing with older strangers.
7. How many games can I have going at one time?
You can have up to 10 games going on at a time.
8. How long do my games stay on the server?
Games stay on the server and the webpage for 1 month. If the story didn’t have a top-score, then it will be deleted. Fear not, though! One way to get a top-scoring story is to have people rate it!
9. Can I share/show my games to other people (even if they don’t have the game installed?)
When a player selects an ongoing story, they are given an option to “post” (or share) their story with the world. The player can select either Facebook, Twitter, SMS or email. This will share a bit.ly link that will take the player to A-Novel-Idea.com’s webpage where anyone can view the story, rate it, and share it with others.
10. When I post my story, it posts a link. What’s that all about?
When you share/post a story, a bit.ly link is created so you can link your friends to A-Novel-Idea.com’s webpage. Here, they can read and rate your story.
11. What is “My Profile” and why is it important?
“My Profile” is a place where you can post your picture, see your score, change the background, set a status (“what’s up world?!”) your achievements, your story statistics, buy additional upgrades (explained later), see your friends, and adjust your personal settings (phone number, password, etc.)
12. I see a $ sign--- what kinds of things can I buy in A Novel Idea?
Sometimes you just need a few extra characters to make your sentence really shine! In A Novel Idea, we got you covered. Buy coins which can be exchanged for Extra sentence characters (standard limit is 160) Extra sentences (standard is 24) Themes for your profile Trophy cases (for your achievements) Extra themes/A Novel Idea sentences.
13. Where do all the keywords come from?
We gathered up all the standard vocabulary words (by age) that one should learn during their K-12 education experience.
14. It’s been my friend’s turn for a REALLY long time! Other than harassing them on the phone, can I remind them to play?
Any player can send a reminder by “poking” the other players. You can do this by clicking on their name in the story screen and select “poke”.
15. What are notifications?
When a player posts their story on Facebook or Twitter, any comments on that will be recorded in the “Notification” screen. This should prevent the player from having to open up multiple applications to see their comments.
16. How can I add and find friends?
Lots of ways! You can find them on Facebook, Twitter, phone’s contact card, or Username.
17. Some sentences have emoticons next to them. How and why does this happen?
Any player can “like” or throw up a smiley face next to sentences that they may like or dislike. It’s an easy way to show the other players what you thought of their sentence/plot twist.
18. Why would I “like” someone else’s sentence?
There are multiple ways to play A Novel Idea: Player vs. Player or Player with Player. If you are working together with other players to create a top-scoring story, then “liking” will give each sentence an additional 5 points.
19. What is a “top-scoring story”?
A top-scoring story can happen in several ways. While the story is being created, points are calculated. Once the story is complete, it is posted on the website where the community can read/rate it (similar to “liking”).
20. I’ve read that I can win real money with this game. What’s up with that?
For the first 6 months (or until we run out of money!), WeeWoo Studios will be giving away 200$ amazon gift cards to the top-scoring stories! Creating the stories is easy-- the hardest part will be how to decide how to split the money!
